Washington Network Seeks Six VISTA Volunteers

The Communities In Schools Washington network is looking to fill six VISTA positions recently awarded by the federal Americorp VISTA program. As reported in a previous post the program, with help from the economic stimulus plan, expanded its ranks by 10,000 additional one-year positions.

Communities In Schools VISTAs will work for affiliate offices in Renton, Seattle, Tacoma, Kent, Puyallup, Whatcom County and on the Key Peninsula. VISTAs will work to build and manage programs, recruit and organize community volunteers, support communications and public relations work, and help plan fundraisers and community events.

If you are interested in becoming a VISTA, or know someone who might click on our employment page for more information. The VISTA program is a great avenue for young people working build work-place skills; many former VISTAs view their experiences in the program as formative in their professional development.
