September 11, National Day of Service and Remembrance

Over 50 Holland America employees spent the day sorting supplies and stuffing 700 backpacks.
On a sunny indian summer morning in Seattle over 50 volunteers from Holland America assembled in a south Seattle warehouse to help Communities In Schools sort thousands of pounds of donated school supplies collected throughout the summer at various “Stuff the Bus” events. Volunteers sorted, inventoried and then finally assembled the supplies into 700 backpacks which were donated by Costco Wholesale. Backpacks will be distributed to kids at school next week.
To add a nice surprise to an already pleasant day, Tobey Maguire along with his wife, Jennifer, and their beautiful kids Ruby and Otis showed up to lend a hand – rolling up their sleeves and sorting and stuffing to help make the 700 backpacks a reality for young people in need. Tobey is in town filming his latest movie The Details.
Big thanks to the employees of Holland America for helping us with such a monumental task and for making this a very memorable National Day of Service and Remembrance. And special thanks for the Maguire family for lending a hand and for brightening everyone’s day.
